About nojeff

What this is

You want to order something and you already have the Amazon link open. nojeff works out what kind of thing it is and shows you shops in Germany and Austria that carry that kind of thing — with a link straight into their own search. The link may be from any other shop just as well; or you just pick a category, and we show you the shops in it.

How it works

From an Amazon link we take the product code and read the title of the page; from any other shop we read the title of its product page, and where the shop will not let us in, the name out of the address. A language model sorts the product into a fixed set of categories. Then we look through our own shop list for those categories. The model writes one sentence per shop about why it fits — and nothing else. If you only pick a category we ask no model at all: you have already said what it is about.

What the tick box does

When you set it, our server calls up each found shop's own search page — not your browser. Out of that page we read the name, the link and, where one stood plainly beside it, the price. The language model writes not one word: it is shown only the names we read — no shop name, no address, no price — and it answers with numbers. The order is then worked out in our own program.

Where the rating comes from

Every shop on our list has been read by hand, and what came of it sits in the list together with the address of the page we read it on: a membership or a certificate anybody can look up, otherwise the imprint. That is what decides which shops are offered at all and in what order. None of it stands on the result page — that page is about the product. The language model never writes one of these readings and is not even shown one.

What we do not know

We do not know whether a shop has this exact product in stock right now. If you set the tick box on the front page, we fetch the search pages of the shops we found and read what stands on them. What we then show carries the date and the address we read it at. We show a price only where exactly one stood plainly beside the item — otherwise we say that none did. A price is never guessed, and nothing is ever ordered by price. We do not know delivery times. And a certificate is a certificate, not a guarantee.

The name

The name is a joke at the expense of a very rich man and nothing more. nojeff belongs to nobody, sells nothing and earns nothing from any click.
